African Inspiration

So there is no doubt you have heard about the inspiration of safari and tribal design for this spring. I am really loving this because I love ethnic design of all kind.

So I was reading Make Fetch Happen (not that I understand the blog title -- but she has some really good posts -- *I have been reminded that "Fetch" is the catch phrase from the movie Mean Girls! It means fabulous or cute, duh. LOL I totally forgot about that.*) and the blogger (Brigette) was talking about designer Kevan Hall. His Spring 2008 collection Africa: A Safari is amazing. Check out some of my favorites and take a look at the collection for yourself!

Many of these looks can be pulled from the Big 4 pattern companies.
What do you all think? Can everyone pull off the safari/ tribal influence?

These are some GREAT looks! I think you can use these prints for everyday wear, but you just have to be smart about it lol.

The long strapless VERY bold color dress I LOVE...to make that an "everyday" type dress, I would either shorten it and add wide straps, and some fierce gladiator sandals OR shorten it and pair it with a solid shrug, some fab pumps grab a clutch and have a great night out!

I think everyone can, if done right. Christina from Assorted Notions took an African print, used a Patrones pattern and made something that's ethnic without being costumey.

I love Kevan Hall. His stuff is always so well made and flattering for the curvy female form. "Make fetch happen" She got that from the movie Mean Girls when one of the Plastics wanted to use the word fetch as a new catchphrase something that looks hot. Like "That dress is so fetch" lolololololol

I've been all over this Safari/Global trend since September! I love Kevan Hall! That dress would be fabulous if shorten... I would leave it strapless for hot Summer nights. You can add a jacket or a cute cardigan and wear it for a daytime look. From top to bottom, my favs are 1, 2 & 4.

Thanks for visiting my blog!

I'll be trying to learn how to sew for awhile now so I find yours very inspirational.

Also, lashell is correct, I did get my blog title from "Mean Girls."

I love the global influence in fashion. I especially love traditional/tribal fabrics done up in new ways. Everyone can pull it off, African women do it all the time, just scale the prints and proportions to the wearer appropriately.

Everyone can....there is SO many ways to incorporate it. I'm working on some inspirations of my own.

I think everyone can if done tastefully. Sometimes it's just an accent other times you can make it bold. Find what works well and go for it.

I agree with the other comments that everyone can pull it off. It will depend on your coloring, height and personality as to how much can be worn at one time. His clothing is beautiful and tasteful.
