Why do people search for a One Size fits all solution for social anxiety? Wishful Thinking?
I've wrestled with severe social anxiety all my life. If I had a dollar for each time someone suggested a paid program GUARANTEED to work, I'd be rich.
When I se the word GUARANTEED..I question it.
Social Phobia, is no different than any other phobia. It develops because of different personal experiences we've had in life. Doesn't this mean the solution will be different for us all?
Many programs and solutions have the potential to work for some people, but only if they just happen to fit the specific circumstances for those individuals. Two people can use the same program, yet only one might improve.
Regular, consistent, exposure to my social fears is the only real solution for me. Books, tapes, videos, and fancy techniques are fine, but only do so much "for me". Many make my anxiety worse, because they cause me to focus on my fears, rather than attacking and working through my fears. Nubi
Yep.. it is totally wishful thinking..
different methods of coping work differently for different people at different times.. and there is no connect the dots approach in the world that will solve this riddle..
for some it is talk therapy..
for some it is modification of bad habits and a nutrient enhanced diet..
for some it is making it a point to get into stressful public situations like forcing themself to leave the house once a day to buy groceries at the store duringa busy time until they get used to it
for some it is many different kinds or combinations of prescription meds
for some it is yoga and meditation..
for some there is no cure to what ails them and they spend their entire life hiding themselves safely away from the stress of society
it's all relative and depends on the individual.
